When we started this project, we felt strongly that we could create a sustainable vacation experience that wasn’t just beautiful but thoughtful and careful as well. The core of our ethos at Idyll Reserve centers around sustainability and we’ve worked hard to construct this ultra-luxe getaway as eco-consciously as possible.

Our Eco-Conscious Story

To start, we chose Hygge Supply as the designer for the (4) newly built cabins. Hygge Supply is focused on designing amazing modern homes (in Michigan!) as sustainably as possible - the entire build, start to finish, uses consolidated shipping, pre-made steel SIP panels, local supplies when available, non-toxic paint and finishes, heat-treated, ethically-sourced natural wood floors and exterior cladding (Thermory USA), ultra-efficient appliances and low-voltage lighting, and the most modern tech available (with comparatively low waste on site).

We're also partnering with local turnover/cleaning company, Broom and Bloom, that hand-makes all of our  non-toxic cleaning supplies, hand soaps, shampoos, etc. out of all natural ingredients and essential oils, as well as pays their employees double the industry standard (which we also think is pretty great).

We continue to add products and partners to this list — if you’d like to connect with us about a potential partnership, or have questions, please send us a note at info@idyllreserve.com

During your stay, a few of the sustainability features you’ll notice include supplying the cabins with:

  • Wallbox Electric Car Chargers: complementary EV charging for all guests

  • Birch: natural, non-toxic Australian wool and natural latex mattresses

  • Organic bedding and furnishings made from natural fibers

  • Durogreen: Adirondack Chairs

  • West Elm: FSC-certified furniture

  • Roosevelt Coffee espresso beans and ground coffee: Columbus based coffee shop which uses all proceeds to support clean water, hunger and human trafficking initiatives both locally and globally

  • Forgotten & Found: local, hand-poured candles that are made for the cabins in repurposed and one-of-a-kind refillable vessels

  • Biodegradable trash bags, compostable sponges made from coconut husks and vegetable cellulose, and 100% recycled paper products throughout the cabins as well as full recycling options for waste

  • Meza Wine Shop: in Westerville Columbus, wine selection seasonally curated for us

Detailed with Purpose

Radiant floor heating and mini-split AC units allow for ultra efficient heating and cooling, and maximize the tall ceiling spaces. Our countertops are recycled paper by Richlite or recycled post-industrial plastics from Durat.

Additionally, as an essential aspect of a 'cabin getaway' in Hocking Hills, we've worked incredibly hard to make the hot tub experience as eco-conscious as possible. Instead of using the tub's heating system to heat the fresh cold water (which causes it to run at high-energy consumption for up to 12 hours), we have installed hot water hose-bibs and highly-efficient tankless, on-demand water heaters that will provide hot water directly to the spas, using a fraction of the energy required to heat the water in the traditional way.
